I loved the story line which is both dark and hopeful. I am looking forward to the upcoming novellas to learn more about the individual characters as I found myself wishing I knew more of their backstories.Product details

Egnitheos Nicole Kasprzynski 9781533021816 Books Reviews
This is a great debut, especially from a writer this age. The story follows the adventures of Alastair, a boy who grew up in a city with a strong caste system (partly based on hair colour, I love that idea) but leaves his home to find his mother. He learns that everything he used to believe in and took for granted is not really what it seems to be.
The story is filled with characters, all with their unique traits and looks. All of them could easily have become the main character of their own novel. Diversity can also be found in the races inhabiting the world of Alastair; you have well-known mythical creatures, like centaurs, but also ones you have never heard of before. And then you have races you do know, but with an unusual twist. It’s a good combination of the known and the unknown.
There is a strong contrast between good and evil, in character personalities as well as in setting. It’s not a strong divide there are enough ‘grey’ characters out there too, which I find the most interesting. Sometimes, good and evil can be found strongly within the same character. This is what I liked the most about the story. Oh, and the ‘bad corpse’ phrase! That one made me laugh.
That said, there were some moments that confused me and made me reread paragraphs. Some had to do with the used sentence structure, making it unclear who is talking/doing something or where the characters are, while others had to do with the characters’ (re)actions. I had the feeling characters were noticing the least important things first and were taking a long time to see the things that matter most. I can’t talk about them without telling details, but I made a list if someone is interested. Anyway, these problems are all small, at least small enough that they didn’t pull me out of the story so much I no longer liked it. Except maybe for *slight spoiler alert* that god person Alastair meets at some point. That god’s presence was breathtakingly powerful, and he showed some pretty neat skills, which made me wonder why he didn’t use them more often.
Awesome book from a 19 year old author!!!
Wow! I read this in three days, because I couldn't put it down! I had no idea what to expect when I started reading, but by the end I was breathless with the adventure.
If you like stories full of adventures, twists and turns, and thought provoking questions I highly suggest Egnitheos!
