In this relentlessly suspenseful legal thriller from Robert Dugoni, the #1 bestselling author of MY SISTER’S GRAVE, attorney David Sloane takes on an unwinnable case that threatens to kill much more than his perfect courtroom winning streak…

Things are going well for David Sloane he’s basking in the victory of a $1.6 million wrongful-death verdict and enjoying life with his new wife Tina and stepson Jake. That is, until Beverly Ford asks him to sue the US military over the death of her husband James, an officer killed in Iraq. Sloane, by virtue of having been a soldier himself, feels duty bound to take on the seemingly impossible-to-win case.

With virtually no evidence to work with, Sloane enlists Charles Jenkins, a former CIA agent turned PI, to help him find the only witnesses to the overseas death the men James served with the night he died. When Sloane and Jenkins realize that two of the four officers who came home died soon after, and a third refuses to talk, their only hope is to find the youngest and most mysterious soldier and get the truth out of him…if they can keep him alive long enough to do so.

As Sloane pushes the case forward in the courtroom and the investigation further in the field, he and Jenkins begin to realize just how deep this case goes…and how much danger Sloane and his new family are in.

New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni is in top form in this nail-biting page turner.

“Dugoni is a superb storyteller, and his courtroom drama shines.”—The Boston Globe

“John Grisham, move over.”—The Seattle Times

"Exhilarating...I could not put it down."-- Tess Gerritsen, NYT bestselling author of DIE AGAIN

Wrongful Death A David Sloane Novel eBook Robert Dugoni

This is an engaging legal story, but what makes it so interesting is the investigative means that lead to the courtroom. David Sloane is a man overcome with a cause that will put him up against compelling legal precedent and against forces of greed and corruption. The novel succeeds as a thriller because the reader fears for Sloane and his family as the forces against him steadily murder any obstacles before them. The military story was very well done and the misdirection was superb. I was surprised by the culprits. My only criticism deals with the back story of Sloane's youth, and of P.I.Jenkins' involvement in it. That was a distraction and the author does not clearly expose the sordid affair well enough-at least for me.

Wrongful Death A David Sloane Novel eBook Robert Dugoni Reviews

Another really good story from author Robert Dugoni. Once Captain Kessler delivers his story I cried. There are some very emotional and moving portions of dialog within the story. After reading this and reading through his Acknowledgement and the mentions he gives of the First Person Accounts books I am definitely putting them in my reading list.
I was very excited when I got the third entry into the David Sloane series by Robert Dugoni. He doesn't rush to release new books like some of the authors of this genre have done lately. He is an "old style" one book a year author.

The book opens in the home of a disabled soldier. For reasons we do not know until later in the book, he is murdered. His murder is disguised to look like a suicide. Mr. Dugoni deftfully weaves a tale about greed, the military and the pursuit of justice to a climatic conclusion.

The book gripped me in the beginning, but the reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that it got bogged down a bit mid-way through the story. The author was trying to incorporate part of the story from the previous book, and it was a bit confusing for me. Some of the "in peril" parts near the end were a bit unbelivable, yet the conclusion was satisfactory. I enjoyed the courtroom scenes and the legal procedures portrayed by David Sloane, who happens to be 19-0 since he switched his practice from defending corporate clients to plaintiff's work. He is thought to be a bit of a magician in this regard, winning the seemingly hopeless cases.

While this author has been compared to an early John Grisham, I don't feel that he has quite hit the mark. I have hope that his future attempts may eventually get there. He definitely has a talent that sets him above the rest of the pack.

Overall, this was a good read, and I look forward to the next entry in the series.
Dugoni has done it again. This is a sound book, filled with well drawn characters and many facts about the realities of war that I never wanted to know. It is meticulously plotted. There's also some terrific court room scenes. And the ending! It blew me away. Between David Sloane and Tracy Crosswhite, Robert Dugoni is becoming one of my favorite authors.
This series is fun and engaging. Sloan little by little becomes a complete character, including history, as do the other main characters. They get into a serious issue with the american military. Thought provoking when you've had no experience with benefits of soldiers who died fighting for the country.
This is a must read before continuing with the rest of his stories. It not only gives you background
It explains why David Sloane is who he is and why.
I look forward to 're-reading some of his other books I have.
Thank you for another good mystery with more than answers. Keep up the great works of a author with fantastic style.
As the title suggests, this book involves government and military issues after a former soldier's family are denied all of their benefits. The main character, an attorney representing the family, immediately discovers that this will be a difficult case. However, he doesn't foresee the personal involvement and danger which moves onto his own family as a result of the lawsuit. The story begins calmly but escalates quickly into a book that explores the motives and dangers one can encounter at home as well as at war. It sparks outrage at ideas people accept and expect--only to discover deception at every corner. I was impressed with the author's research and knowledge into a complex topic. His characters were not only believable, but they revealed weaknesses and faults that still made you cheer them on...and forgive some of them. This is a top-notch read, and I will look for other books by this author.
Sloane takes on the US military and the seemingly insurmountable Feres Doctrine. The Fares,Doctrine makes it nearly impossible to sue the US government when a soldier is is killed incident to his/her service. As usual, Dugoni develops the characters to the point that you know each of them personally. The story centers on a soldier, Ford, who is killed in action in Iraq. Things are,not as they appear, however, and Sloane, along with his best friend Charles Jenkins set out to untangle the truth of what really happened and to brimg justice for Fords family. You will sit up late at night turing pages frantically to find out what happens next. Kudos Mr. Dugoni for another, great story.
